Eleven (El)

  • 1996 paint horse mare
  • Lake county cruelty case rescued on September 11th 2019
  • Height- 15hh
  • Weight- 1050lbs
on 9/11/2019 I picked up one of the worst cases of abuse I’ve ever witnessed. Literally in a junkyard with nothing at all to eat and barely any space to move around. When I arrived with the sheriffs department to pick her up I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. On my way home with her in the trailer I called Peterson smith hospital because I knew she needed to be seen there ASAP, as it was the evening already it was decided it would be best for me to take her home and bring her up in the morning.
When I got her home I was able to take a better look and I was just in disbelief that she was still able to walk, I administered pain meds and antibiotics as directed by the vet. I knew there was a high chance that we would be euthanizing her the next day, I spent all night with her giving her all the love and attention I could feeding her what she could eat but of course in moderation because she was so emaciated. That night I prayed and prayed for a miracle
Now ONE YEAR LATER she is a healthy and happy girl! She lives a pain free life enjoying every day with her friends and sleeps laying down every night in her comfortable stall ❤️ she never has to worry about anyone ever hurting her again.
I remember wrapping her legs every single day for about 6 months thinking they would never heal, and look at them now! Only a tiny spot remains, which will always be there but it doesn’t affect her at all. She has a heart murmur we have to keep an eye on, she definitely has the worst one I’ve heard but horses can live long healthy lives as long as it is monitored by a veterinarian with regular checkups.

Our incredible vet Dr.

Erin Denney-Jones and Kim Campbell work closely with us to ensure the horses are medically cared for in every way possible, we love
Florida Equine Veterinary Service!

On arrival Eleven weighed 650 lbs and she is now just over 1000lbs! She is the perfect weight and the vet is thrilled with her progress! She eats

Purina Horse Feed

Senior twice a day soaked so it’s easier for her to chew with her many missing teeth. She also gets soft Canadian orchard hay shipped in for our horses with special needs that require it. You’d never guess she was 25+ with a heart murmur!

I’m so very thankful for everything with Eleven, people always ask me how I can deal with seeing abuse on this sort of level… I always tell them that it’s seeing them after recovering that makes everything worth it, whether that means giving them one night of love, one week of love or a life time. I know that by the advice of veterinarians and guidance from God will always lead me to make the right decision, the biggest reward of all is seeing the horses blossom into their own identity, once a scared emaciated horse that had no life left in their eyes now turned into a healthy happy horse that is able to be themselves is worth everything to me. One of my favorite things when rescuing is learning their personality when it starts to come out then them realizing they can be themselves and have their own personalities it’s so amazing.
Every day is a blessing and it wouldn’t be possible without you guys! I’m so very thankful for having you along for this journey!
