Eleven (El)

Eleven (El)

Eleven (El) 1996 paint horse mare Lake county cruelty case rescued on September 11th 2019 Height- 15hh Weight- 1050lbs on 9/11/2019 I picked up one of the worst cases of abuse I’ve ever witnessed. Literally in a junkyard with nothing at all to eat and barely any space to move around. When I arrived with the sheriffs department to pick her up I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. On my way home with her in the trailer I called Peterson smith hospital because I knew she needed to be seen there ASAP, as it was the evening already it was decided it would be best for me to take her home and bring her up in the morning. When I got her home I was able to take a better look and I was just in disbelief that she was still able to walk, I administered pain meds and antibiotics as directed by the vet. I knew there was a high chance that we would be euthanizing her the next day, I spent all night with her giving her all the love and attention I could feeding her what she could eat but of course in moderation because she was so emaciated. That night I prayed and prayed for a miracle Now ONE YEAR LATER she is a healthy and happy girl! She lives a pain free life enjoying every day with her friends and sleeps laying down every night in her comfortable stall she never has to worry about anyone ever hurting her again. I remember wrapping her legs every single day for about 6 months thinking they would never heal, and look at them now! Only a tiny spot remains, which will always be there but it doesn’t affect her at all. She has a heart murmur we have to keep an eye on, she definitely has the worst one I’ve heard but horses can live long healthy lives as long as it is monitored by a veterinarian with regular checkups. Our incredible vet Dr. Erin Denney-Jones and Kim Campbell work closely with us to ensure the horses are medically cared for in every way possible, we love Florida Equine Veterinary Service! On arrival Eleven weighed 650 lbs and she is now just over 1000lbs! She is the perfect weight and the vet is thrilled with her progress! She eats Purina Horse Feed Senior twice...

Highway

Highway Highway has an incredible story- He truly is a miracle horse! LIKE Highways Facebook page for daily updates! CLICK HERE-   Highway The I-75 Miracle on Facebook! 11/30/2004 Quarter horse Gelding Rescued November 2019 Height- 15hh Weight- 1000lbs Monthly Sponsorship- DCHR Sponsorship Program Form  (every month) Farrier Sponsorship-DCHR Farrier Sponsorship (every 6 weeks) here is his full story! November 30th, 2018 5:00am      Highway is on his way to a known “slaughter house” where “a random guy” is taking him for the profit he will receive. On Interstate 75 at a speed of 60 mph Highway falls out of an unsecured trailer then hits and drags onto pavement. His first escape from inevitable death. 8:00am    Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) receives calls from concerned motorists reporting a wounded horse on the side of I75 9:00am     ACSO picks up Highway – view picture – covered in road rash; bleeding wounds and a badly damaged leg 10:00am    ACSO posts incident on Facebook looking for owner               10:15am   Loran Wheatley, DreamCatcher Horse Rescue(DCHR), sees story on Facebook and immediately places call to ACSO to tell them she will take him and offers to help in any way she can 10:18am   Loran receives a call from the deputy from ACSO indicating that the county needs money for expensive urgent surgery (infection) or will have to put horse down.  In cooperation with deputy Jones Loran tells him that DCHR will figure out way to pay for surgery, because county does not have funds budgeted for this. 2:30pm     Highway is at Emergency Medical Center of Ocala (EMCO) Surgical Center for his surgery.  Spring hill Veterinary clinic posts “go fund me” and Loran reaches out to the DCHR community 4:00pm     Surgery begins on Highway’s open joint wound.  The problem is that there is asphalt inside of the open knee joint wound. Surgery entails a complicated insertion of a large needle inside the knee wound to flush out asphalt between the joints. 8:30pm     Highway is out of surgery and in recovery.  His second escape from death December 1st, 2018   Previous owner who gave Highway to “a random guy” to put him down was found by ACSO, the driver is identified and only receives a class 3 misdemeanor. Previous owner does not want Highway back, so no charges were filed, and she signs him over to ACSO. Highway is now only listed...

Domino

Domino 4/19/1998 Quarter horse gelding Rescued December 2011 Height- 15.1 hh Weight- 1200lbs Domino was a rescue from Lake county animal control in 2009, he was emaciated abused and had a gaping abscess in his left leg. It took over 6 months for the wound to heal but he healed beautifully and you can barely see a scar. After he healed and was able we began seeing if he was ridable, he was but he had been forced to barrel race and was dangerous because he was trying to get away from pain. We worked with him for a long time on how to trust his rider and now he is one of the safest trail horses. He is owned by Allie (Lorans mom and co-founder of DCHR)    ...
