Welcome to National 4-H Horse Curriculum
The 4-H horse manuals provide an interactive curriculum for youth that is hands on and grounded solidly in subject matter. With the addition of new content to the series, youth will be able to develop life skills while exploring horse science.
The DreamCatchers 4-H Club Horse Program promotes knowledge of horsemanship and responsible, ethical equine use, care, and management. We are excited to offer our community several options to be involved in a 4-H program!
Horse Lover (for the Non horse owner)
Beginner Horse (for horse owners or leasers wishing to show) * also available for lease –miniature horses for showing!
Youth who participate in 4-H horse programs develop life skills that include leadership, responsibility, sportsmanship, teamwork, community service, a positive attitude, and a sense of self worth.
Children must be 8 years old by Sept 1st of the current 4-H year. Read the FL 4-H State Rule Book. Each member is responsible to know the rules for classes. Show requirements: Helmet must have certification label still in helmet, SEI/ASTM, sticker. Bit requirements: No twisted wire, check rule book for more no-no's. A youth must be 14 to qualify for Regional from the State Horse Show. The "Acknowledgement of Receipt" form is to ensure that all youth who enter the Area shows receive a rule book & acknowledge their responsibility to understand it, all youth who enter the Area horse shows are required to have this signed form on file in our office. In order for the Area entry to
be accepted, it must be accompanied by the Acknowledgement of Receipt of rule book form. For those who qualify for State, form will be forwarded to the state office so they are in hand when the State entries arrive.
Rotary/County Show--Will be held usually in Nov. March is the qualifying show for District Shows. You must attend this show to qualify to go to district. You can enter just in 1 class to qualify. Your "FL Horse Project Book" has to be completed & turned (see present year calendar for date), in order to go to district. AREA D, District Show, Clarcona Horse Park. You must earn certain number of points to qualify for the State Show. State Horse Show, Tampa, you must earn certain number of points to qualify for Regional. Regional Horse Show, you must be 14 years old by Sept 1st to enter.
SEE ABOVE for DATES. Youth who wish to participate in the Lake County 4-H Qualifier Horse Show must attend 1 of 2 mandatory safety meetings in order to show, no exceptions. Youth will learn the importance of proper safety techniques and the potential consequences involved when safety no longer is a priority. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend meetings with their child. Certificates will be issued upon completion and the certificate number will be required to register for the qualifier. Certificates are valid for 2 consecutive years.
